How peristeam resolved Mai’s recurring UTIs and reduced period pain signficantly

Peristeaming has a myriad of benefits outside of postpartum and menstrual health, as evidenced by Mai’s story.

Background

Mai is in her early 20s and has been experiencing debilitating period pain in recent years. The cramps were not so bad when she was younger but getting consistently worse as she gets older.

Although her cycles are regular, the week leading up to her period had become excruciatingly painful, with the first two days of her period needing her to be in bed with painkillers.

When she first came to me, her period lasted for 6-10 days, accompanied with heavy bleeding, needing to use both tampons and pads to ensure she doesn’t bleed through her underwear.

Just after we had met, Mai started a new relationship and became sexually active, which then lead her to regularly suffering from UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections). After having clinical lab tests done which ruled out a bacterial infection, her GP was perplexed and advised Mai to take Ural at the first signs of UTI symptoms. Mai and her partner had changed condom brands, materials, barrier methods to rule out a latex allergy or other sensitivity but the UTIs kept coming back.

Solution

Mai’s presentation of heavy bleeding and painful cramps are a sign of uterine stagnation, an imbalance where the uterus has old residue buildup due to poor circulation or improper period care.

At our first meeting, I recommended the Cleanse blend with 3 days of peristeaming before and after her period, maximum of 30 minutes at a time. Her first period post steaming was great but her following period was extremely heavy.  I advised that this is quite normal, and the flow will normalise as she continues to steam.

When I next met Mai 3 months later, she was suffering from regular UTIs. I changed her peristeaming herbs to the UTI blend and advised to shorten her steaming time to 15-20 minutes max and steam after penetrative sex, along with 3 days before and 3 days after her period.

Outcome

We met a month later, and Mai reported no UTIs, and her period was not heavy as before. I kept monitoring her progress over the next 3 months, and here is a summary of what we found:

  • No UTIs since she started peristeaming with the UTI blend and steaming post sex.
  • Period flow was normal, not heavy as they used to be.
  • Period lasted 4 days (she was prone to longer periods, lasting anywhere between 6 – 10 days, with spotting in between).
  • Period cramps were persistent on days 1 and 2 but they were relatively mild in comparison to the pain she experienced prior to steaming.

She also reflected on how she loves the process of setting up her steam space, and taking time out of her schedule to practise self-care. To give back to herself in a way that she didn’t know before.
