Why is this important?
It takes a lot of effort and energy for your uterus to shed its lining. If we don’t preserve energy for the uterus then she simply can’t do her job properly.
Over time, if the lining isn’t shed completely each month, this can lead to build up of endometrial lining which then causes an array of symptoms such as severe cramping, heavy flow, irregular cycles etc.
Some ways you can prioritise rest are:
- Skip the high intensity workouts and go for gentle walks or yin yoga instead.
- Put your feet up, place a hot water bottle over your abdomen and rest up.
- Sleep in/sleep more.
- Opt to stay in and watch movies instead of heading out.
We instinctively feel the need to be ‘hermit’ like, retreat and not socialise during this time. Lean into this restful phase of your cycle.
This simple shift really supports your body during this time, helping the physiological process of menstruation.
