How often you breastfeed/pump is influential. From my own personal experience and the women I’ve worked with, our periods came back around the same time as our mother’s did! Go figure. Note that this is anecdotal evidence and not backed by rigorous scientific research!
Some women report to have their period back as early 2 months post birth, and some women don’t get it back till 1 – 2 years post birth. It really depends and is all considered normal.
I know a lot of women who have period symptoms post birth they never encountered before pregnancy, such as:
- spotting
- pale or dark blood
- severe cramping
- heavier or longer flow
- clots or stringy bits
- mood swings
- extreme fatigue
These are all signs that your uterus needs some support.
Peristeaming in the days/weeks/months/years, even decades after birth helps achieve this, amongst many other benefits! Womb massage and wrapping are also anecdotally helpful.
