A lot of what I cover presumes that you have some support around you, either a partner or parent or friend. I know this is a privelage, but if you are on your own, I plead that you seek support, please don’t do this alone. There are plenty of support and community groups who can help, North Central Mother’s Network being one of them.

So let’s get into it…

Starting off with food and nutrition. To avoid reaching for nutrient-poor, convenient foods in the Fourth Trimester, opt for batch cooking and freezing nutritious meals for the whole family. Stews, casseroles, soups are fantastic. If you have a friend or family member who is an avid cook, seek their support. If there’s a meal train service, jump on board.

Household cleaning and chores will be low in your priority list after bub is born. So take this opportunity to hire a cleaner, even when you are in late pregnancy! @rentamumclean is a great resource in our area.

If you have older children, consider sending them to spend quality time with grandparents, or other family members for a few days. If they are preschoolers and don’t already go to daycare, consider booking them in for a couple of days per week during the Fourth Trimester. Ask your partner to take over school/daycare drop offs for a few months as everyone adjusts to the new norm.

If you have major projects around the house, garden or work; try to have everything finished up eight weeks before bub’s expected due date. The last couple of months are exhausting, so give yourself a break (if possible).

Ask your partner to take some extra leave after the mandatory 2 weeks of Dad or Partner leave ends. Not only for the support this gives you, but also for extra bonding time between bub and them.
