🤓 We focus so much on what we eat during pregnancy that we often forget how important nutrition is after birth!
Your baby has literally sucked the nutrients out of you for about 9 months, then you birth him or her, lose blood, tear or get cut up and endure trauma (even if it was an “easy” birth)!
Proper nutrition in the postpartum phase not only aids recovery, but also helps to:
⚖️ balance out hormones and ease mood swings
😴 induce deep rest
🥗 replenish nutrients lost during pregnancy and birth
🤱🏽 support lactation
💩 ease bowel movements
Which is why in many cultures around the world; soups, stews, broths and porridges are a staple during this phase, no matter the season. 🍜
These foods are warming, hydrating, nutritionally dense and easy to digest. 🍲
‘The first forty days: the essential art of nourishing the new mother’ is a great book that I highly recommend every pregnant woman to read.
You can batch cook some meals and freeze them whilst your bun is still in the oven, or even better…..have someone make these fresh for you after you’ve birthed your baby.
What postpartum recipes does your culture swear by??
